Now that you understand what a mascot is, here are several best-known mascots in the World Wide Web. They are so popular that you won't be able to imagine the business / company / group without these fellas! I list them in no particular order:
1. TWITTER BIRD
Ah..., the cute little blue bird. Who doesn't know this bird? It comes in different shapes, styles, poses and even colors! Weird thing is... I don't think there's even an official one! All the blue birds that we have seen so far are created by others, totally not related to the official Twitter in any way! But despite all that..., we always know for sure that it's a Twitter bird floating, especially when there's a speak bubble with the letter 't' inside it. This bird has been flying around millions of web pages to lead the viewers to its home: the official Twitter page.
2. SQUIDOO'S SQUID
That big eye! That juicy orange color! Those tentacles!! Yep..., it's our Squidoo! It doesn't say anything, it doesn't try to mimic any cute poses, and it doesn't even smile. Hell, I don't even think it has a mouth. BUT WE LOVE IT! It's lovable, it's significant, it's different in its own ways and we can tell that it's a Squidoo within seconds. Best part? This little dude has many cooler-than-cool monsters, and they are always there to greet and help us with our lenses!
3. GOOGLE ANDROID'S DROID
A green robot mascot that bears similarity with R2D2 from Star Wars. Simple, futuristic and very versatile in terms of poses and expressions. There are lots of versions of this mascot, most probably created by the fans.
This is one of the most famous monkey online mascot to date. He doesn't seem to have any other pose available, but that image of a cute little monkey with his little post bag and hat will stick forever in my head.
5. FREELANCESWITCH'S DUDE
Probably he's not as popular as the others, but I really like the mascot's execution throughout the site. He appears in so many poses, actions and costumes depending on the related blog post and the site's contents. Truly an amazing virtual PR guy!
